Below you’ll find answers to common questions about DigitalOnDay and our free browser-based image-to-stencil tool. If you don’t find what you’re looking for here, feel free to reach out to us through our contact page.

What is DigitalOnDay?
DigitalOnDay is a free, browser-based tool that converts photos, graphics, logos, and artwork into clean stencil-style designs. It uses image-processing techniques such as grayscale conversion, thresholding, contrast adjustment, and edge detection to simplify images into high-contrast patterns that can be previewed, downloaded, printed, or refined for creative projects.
Is DigitalOnDay free to use?
Yes. The current DigitalOnDay stencil tool can be used without creating an account or purchasing a subscription. You can upload images, adjust the available stencil settings, preview your result, and use the available download and print options.
Do I need to create an account to use the tool?
No. DigitalOnDay does not require sign-up or account creation to use the stencil tool. You can visit the tool, upload an image, adjust the settings, and create your stencil directly in your browser.
Do you store my images?
The stencil conversion process is performed directly in your browser using client-side image processing. Images used during the normal conversion workflow are not sent to a remote image-processing server for conversion or permanently stored by the stencil tool.
What types of images can I use?
You can use common image formats supported by the tool, such as photos, graphics, logos, and other artwork. For the cleanest stencil result, start with an image that has a clear subject, good contrast, and as little unnecessary background detail as possible.
What file formats can I download my stencil in?
The current tool provides PNG and SVG download options. PNG is useful for printing and image-based workflows, while SVG can be useful for scaling, editing, or transferring the generated design into compatible design software. Depending on your project, additional cleanup may still be required before machine cutting.
Can I use DigitalOnDay for Cricut or other cutting machines?
DigitalOnDay can help you prepare a stencil image for Cricut, Silhouette, laser-cutting, and other compatible design workflows. If you export an SVG, inspect the file carefully in your cutting software before starting the final cut. Complex designs may require additional path cleanup, bridge placement, simplification, or other adjustments to make them fully cut-ready.
Does the tool automatically create stencil bridges?
Some stencil workflows may include bridge-related adjustments, but you should always inspect the final design before cutting. Enclosed areas, also known as islands, need suitable connections so they do not fall out when the stencil material is cut.
Does DigitalOnDay work on mobile devices?
Yes. The stencil tool is designed to work on both desktop and mobile browsers, allowing you to upload images, adjust settings, preview results, and use the available export options without installing a separate app.
Is there a limit to how many images I can convert?
The current browser-based tool does not require an account-based conversion quota. You can use it for multiple image conversions as needed, subject to your browser, device performance, and the technical limits of the tool.
What kind of image produces the best stencil?
Images with a clear subject, strong contrast, sharp edges, and a simple background usually produce the best results. Very dark, blurry, low-resolution, or highly detailed images may require more adjustment before they produce a clean stencil.
Can I print my finished stencil?
Yes. You can use the available print workflow to prepare your finished stencil for printing. Before printing, check the page size, orientation, scale, margins, and final stencil dimensions to make sure the design matches your project.
